1 Lessons In Makkah Life Of Prophet (PBUH) By: Ubedur Rahman Arain ASSALAMUALAIKUM! Dr John Hopkins Denison in his book, Emotion as the Basis of Civilisation, published in 1928, writes: “In the fifth and sixth centuries the civilised world stood on the verge of chaos. The old emotional cultures that had made civilisation possible, since they had given to men a sense of unity and of reverence to their rulers, had broken down, and nothing had been found adequate to take their place ... the great civilisation which had taken four thousand years to construct was on the verge of disintegration, and that mankind was likely to return to that condition of barbarism where every tribe and sect was against the next and law and order were unknown ... Was there any emotional culture that could be brought in to gather mankind once more into unity and to save civilization?” And then speaking of Arabia, the author says: “It was among these people that the man was born who was to unite the whole known world of the east and south.” Thus Islam laid the basis of a unification of humanity of which no other reformer or religion has ever dreamed; of a brotherhood of man which knows no bound of colour, race, country, language or even of rank; of a unity of the human race beyond which human conception cannot go. That man was none other than Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). He not only gave the law, he also lived it. The whole Quran is full of verses that guide the humanity. The sole presenter of that guidance was the Prophet (PBUH) and his life has been set as an example for all to follow as long as the man is on earth (33:21). He lived the principles that are enshrined in the Quran. This included as small a subject as how to treat children to declaring wars on enemies and negotiating peace, all for the growth and benefit of mankind. Prophet's life started in Makkah where he was born and brought up and lived till he was fifty three years old. This period of his life was a shining example of a truthful, just, trustworthy, compassionate, loving, and caring individual that brought a fundamental change in thinking of otherwise arrogant self-centered, divided people. His life in Makkah is as important if not more so than the ten years he lived in Madinah where he established the first Muslim State. Some of the Muslim extremists are trying to enforce a harsh Muslim State without doing the ground work as Prophet (PBUH) did in Makkah. They are looking at strict
