14 'astrologer' sitting on the footpath; sometimes by asking help from his stars because in the human world nobody is listening to him. He pleads with the stars to help him. Look at the irony here! A human being, child of Adam, here he is pleading with the stars for help, whereas, his own life's mission was to conquer the forces of nature, and to spend the power thus obtained for the welfare of entire humanity. A human being pleading to stars for help?! I have told you again and again my friends! If God gives you chance then please read this poem of Iqbal in the second part of Armughan-e- Hijaz. In it, Iqbal has summed up this huge point in one phrase: “I have taught these poor and helpless fellows the lesson of Taqdir”. Beautiful veil on the face of heavenly bodies Dear friends! Now let us come back to the verse (67:5) with which started. The Qur'an says: We have put beautiful veil on these large celestial bodies and, as a result, they look to you so beautiful and shining. If we move out of our flats in summer and get a chance to sleep outside, then, in the clear azure sky, the world of stars looks very beautiful indeed. As I have said, it is Allah's mercy that they are veiled. If they were to look as they really are, like how moon looked very frightful after its veil was lifted, then many children will faint due to fear. Allah says that it is His mercy that He made these celestial bodies like this. The Qur'an says: Allah made them like this, and look at humans! who have made them objects of guesswork and astrology?! The Quran says: “And, indeed, We have adorned the skies nearest to the earth with lights, and have made them objects of futile guesses for the evil ones [from among men]: and for them have We readied suffering through a blazing flame” (67:5-6). Here, the Qur'an has called those who engage in guesswork using stars as devils or Satan. Satan means those who transgress the word of Allah. Allah gave freewill to humans. And He calls those humans as devils who transgress this Allah's commands. Allah gave freewill to all humans and gave them power over stars, and here they are these evil ones telling that human destiny is tied with stars! This was being said at a time, my dear friends!, when the whole world was involved in all kinds of superstition, idol worship, and star worship. In fact, star worship was a religion called Saa-e-been by the Qur'an. Their vast majority of them lived in Iran. They are mentioned in the story of Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH). They believed that these stars are God and used to worship them. Even if they weren't worshiped, stars were taken universally as being linked to human destiny at the time. And the Arabs of those days, who neither had knowledge nor any religion, were the most superstitious people through and through. The Qur'an
